GENERIC INFORMATION ABOUT ISLIP LODGE HERE
My job, in short, is to ensure they know what they are saying and why they are saying it.
When presenting a piece of Ritual – it is all to easy to rush and stumble over the words –
here, I will teach breathing techniques and presentation skills.
It is also within my remit to ensure each new member is aware of their position in the Lodge and their respective duties, roles and responsibilities, from their Initiation and as they progress through the different ranks or positions within the Lodge.
In many ways it’s like being the coach of a team, where much of my work is preparing each player for their positions and set plays. I am there, also, to give advice, which I will strive to do in an impartial, fair and genuine productive manner – sometimes with recourse to consulting with the Secretary or other, well established, members of the Lodge.
Dear reader, I am the Lodge Mentor
(Some Brethren would call me the Lodge Tormentor).
It is an acutely responsible job, some of my duties are to help the newer members to learn the ritual by finding in them the key to their learning – this, in itself, requires an in-depth knowledge of the Ritual and an in-depth knowledge of the Learner in order to design their own unique learning program.
Why is this important? The Learner could quite easily just memorise the words and repeat them “parrot fashion” them when called upon to do so without knowing their actual and valuable meaning, thus missing out on the important messages contained in, what would, at first glance, appear to be just a bunch of words, written in an archaic text.
It is a tough job but seeing a new member progress and shine under my guidance or through their own application is an invaluable reward.
I genuinely appreciate the faith placed in me by the brethren of the Lodge, and it is an
honour to help the newer member along the path of their Masonic Journey.
For me, Freemasonry is all about service to others and improving the community. The emphasis on charity, volunteering, and philanthropy within Masonic lodges aligns with my values of giving back and helping those in need. Through my involvement, I’ve seen firsthand how Masons often come together to support local causes, raise funds for important charities, and work toward social betterment. Freemasonry is a reminder that there is strength in unity, and when people with shared values collaborate, they can create lasting, positive change.
Freemasonry, to me, is a lifelong learning process that aligns with my passion for education. The rituals, lessons, and allegories shared within the Masonic lodge are a constant source of personal enrichment and intellectual growth. As a teacher, I value the emphasis that Freemasonry places on the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and self-improvement. It reminds me that learning is not just about acquiring information, but about how we apply that knowledge to our daily lives. In Freemasonry, I’ve found a space where mentorship and the sharing of ideas are encouraged, which parallels the best aspects of teaching. Being a part of this fraternity reminds me that we’re all students, no matter our age or experience.
For me, Freemasonry is a space for intellectual and philosophical growth. As a professor, I value the fraternity's focus on knowledge, critical thinking, and personal development. It provides a deeper understanding of morality and humanity, much like the academic journey I pursue with my students.
Freemasonry is about building both strong foundations and character. As a construction worker, I connect with its values of teamwork, integrity, and craftsmanship. The lessons of Freemasonry help me grow as a person and guide me to build things that stand the test of time, both in my work and my life.
